About us

At Kirk Petrophysics™, we have one essential goal: to support the capture and retention of meaningful representative data from cores.

It is a goal that we achieve routinely for customers around the world with our complete wellsite core-handling solution.

At the wellsite, we use tried-and-tested packing and preservation techniques and perform ‘hot shot’ analysis via in-situ testing capabilities.

From the wellsite, we deploy our specially-developed Lithotarge™ stabilisation techniques in transportation services characterised by care, professionalism and security.

At our laboratory facilities, we provide analytical services that range from core processing and core analysis to petrology and thin sections.

At our strategically-located storage facilities, our priorities are integrity, security and data access.

Our operational base near London features well-equipped laboratories, storage warehouses and extensive sample viewing areas. Those are complemented by facilities in Aberdeen, Madagascar and West Africa that provide support for projects in key oil & gas provinces internationally.

Everything we do is underpinned by robust and thorough quality assurance practices.

And as a member of the Reservoir Group™ – a club of specialist businesses which together embrace knowledge and experience across all reservoir operations – we can tap into a unique pool of resources and expertise in support of our commitment to provide best-in-class services.

Company history

2010: 11th June, Kirk Petrophysics™ inaugurates its new facility in Guildford with the new core storage and core laboratory.

2010: 1st May, Storecore is fully merged with Kirk Petrophysics™, transferring all contract and services. Kirk Petrophysics™ now leads three major departments: Wellsite, Analytical and Data Management.

2009: 1st January, Storecore analytical services and Kirk Petrophysics™ are now part of a new division of Reservoir Group™ called ‘Core Services’, part of RGIS (Reservoir Group™ Information Services).

2008: Kirk Petrophysics™ relocates its headquarters in south-west London, maintaining an operational unit in Aberdeen.

2008: Kirk Petrophysics™ merges its capabilities with Storecore, recently acquired through Reservoir Group™, to expand its level of expertise.

2007: Through a change of ownership, Kirk Petrophysics becomes part of Reservoir Group™.

2007: A technical paper is presented at the SCA in Calgary detailing the results of the Lithotarge™ study as a means of short-term preservation media.

2007: In May, Kirk Petrophysics™ records 20,000m of core handled (for Total E&P/Indonesia).

2007: Kirk Petrophysics™ changes its corporate logo and launched the ‘Litho’ brand, adding some added value to its domain of expertise and becoming the core handling specialist.

2004: In May, Kirk Petrophysics™ records 10,000m of core handled (for Cairn Energy/India).

2003: New management takes over the company.

2002: In July, a study is undertaken in Norway using a CT scan visualisation system, and the conclusion further demonstrates the effectiveness and superiority of the Lithotarge™ stabilisation method on unconsolidated and fragile sediments. Lithotarge becomes the only stabilisation technique reliable for all type of formations.

1992: Core stabilization using the Lithotarge™ injection process is initially undertaken. The fieldwork using the method is realised on behalf of Elf Nigeria, who also sponsor the primary research work that underpins the development of the method. The research work investigate the use of different foam types, foams with different densities and expansion characteristics. The pressures and temperatures associated with the use of these foams are recorded using sensors placed along the surface of the cores being tested.

Different injection methods are recorded visually through transparent tubing in which the sediments were held. The data from these tests, and the input derived from continued laboratory monitoring of work completed in the field, provides the basis for the development of the most effective and successful core stabilisation process available.
