| It has been widely acknowledged that core handling is critical to the maintenance of core integrity. Unfortunately, cores often don’t undergo adequate handling procedures |

Core plugging
The following special core analysis can be carried out on 1” x 1” plugs at core laboratories:
The well site core plugging tool is an air powered device, mounted on a drill stand to provide extra stability. A foot operated clamp holds the plugging tool securely over the inner barrel (it can be altered by moving the jaws of the clamp into the next predrilled position, facilitating different tube diameters).
A single air supply provides power for the motor and also provides cooling and cleaning for the cutting blade. A combined filter/regulator unit helps to control the supply pressure and removes water and abrasive particles. The air lubricator unit deposits an oil mist into the air supply to lubricate the motor and prevent corrosion of any downline equipment. |

Kirk Petrophysics supplies and operates an air powered plugging tool that is capable of extracting 1” diameter plugs from sleeved cores. The tool is mobile, compact and is capable of cutting through the aluminium, GRP, or steel sleeve before sampling the actual core.
