The systematic description of rocks in hand specimen and Thin Section. Routinely conducted in association with Sedimentology, though independent studies may also be conducted to address specific objectives such as formation damage studies.

Quantitative and qualitative analyses may include comments on texture, mineralogy, diagenesis and reservoir quality and draw on Supplementary Analyses such as XRD, SEM and Core Analysis.

Petrographic descriptions at various levels of detail may be prepared and supported by annotated photomicrograph pairs covering both high and low magnification.
