Sedimentology

Sedimentology encompasses the study of lithological, depositional, structural, and diagenetic features and the processes that result in sedimentary deposition.

A brief sedimentological log and description is normally conducted on whole or slabbed core at the start of the Core Analysis programme and provides the basis for sampling.

A detailed quantitative and qualitative log at the scale of 1:50 forms the basis of the full sedimentological description and interpretation and encompasses facies analysis and elements of stratigraphy. An assessment of reservoir quality is possible by incorporating Core Analysis data into the analysis. A summary log at scale 1:200 may be presented against petrophysical data and wireline logs .

The in-house capabilities of Kirk Petrophysics allows the full integration of Sedimentology, Petrography, Core Analysis and Core Photography into a single report.
