Grain Size Analysis (Sieve or Laser Particle Size Analyses)
Particle size distribution may be determined by the rapid and inexpensive Laser Particle Size Analysis (LPSA) method or by conventional sieving using a standard or modified sieve set. Commonly used to support Petrography but also well engineering, results are presented as tabulated data and particle size distribution curves.
X-Ray Diffraction (XRD)
XRD aids mineral identification and may be used to support Petrography. The clay fraction, whole rock or both clay and whole rock may be analysed. Results are presented as tabulated data with annotated traces if required.
Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)
Analysis of SEM micrographs supports clay mineral analysis and diagenetic interpretation within Petrography. Results are presented as annotated micrographs.Pore cast SEM enables the detailed investigation of pore structure – of particular value in carbonate reservoirs.
Specialised Petrologic Analyses
Additional techniques such as Cathodoluminescence (CL) microscopy, Fluid Inclusion (FI) microthermometry and Stable Isotope (SI) analysis may also be applied as appropriate in diagenetic studies.
