Core Viewing

The Guildford facility houses two dedicated viewing rooms providing a viewing capacity of up to 1000’ of core as well as conference room facilities – these may be used independently or combined to suit client requirements. All basic supporting materials are available including water sprays, dilute HCl for testing, hand lenses and sampling tools. In addition a full range of microscopes are available including a digital hand held microscope that may be used to project images onto a white screen via a projector.

A dedicated colour calibrated laptop is available for viewing digital core photographs alongside core. Installed software includes CoreCad to allow preparation of digital sedimentological logs if required.

In-situ testing is available and may be applied during any core viewing. Analyses available include:

  • Probe permeametry
  • Schmidt Hammer rock strength testing
  • SpecCam mineral mapping
  • Scratch Test (UCS and internal friction angle)
  • Core gamma – Total and Spectral
  • Hot Shot thin section preparation
  • Hot Shot routine core analysis (Porosity, permeability, grain density)
  • Hot Shot petrography


Technical support available during core viewings and workshops includes sedimentology, petrography and core analysis as well as sample maintenance and preservation advice.
