Core Gamma Logging

Kirk Petrophysics™ offer both Total and Spectral portable Gamma-Ray logging for the evaluation of core samples at the well site.

The total Gamma logger records the natural gamma radiation, whereas the Spectral gamma logger records the relative amounts of the three main constituents that are the sources of the natural radiation (Potassium, Uranium, and Thorium).

The logs generated using the gamma logger can be used:

  • To correlate the depths of the other well logs
  • To confirm the depths of the core samples within each sample box
  • To differentiate sedimentary environments: Sand/Shale indications
  • To identify fractures due to variable uranium concentration
  • To select locations for onsite plugging
