The Portable XRF offers an elementary analysis of core and is a powerful tool not only to answer geological questions but also for environmental issues.
Two main uses can thus be distinguished:
Correlation, sedimentary sequences and preliminary stratigraphical interpretations,
Determination of major pollutants
Major elements of interest detected by the Portable XRF are Sulfur (S), Aluminium (Al), Vanadium (V), Nickel (Ni), Strontium (Sr), Barium (Ba), Potassium (K), Titanium (Ti) as well as Heavy metals such as Cadmium (Cd), Arsenic (As), Lead (Pb), Cobalt (Co), Copper (Cu), Chromium (Cr), Zinc (Zn), Mercury (Hg), Manganese (Mn), Selenium (Se), Titanium (Ti), Tungsten (W) among many others.
