The Lithotrack™ device provides a reliable and convenient solution for the quality control of the transport of geological samples from the rig to the laboratory.
The Lithotrack™ records all the relevant physical parameters during this critical phase and permits identification and correlation of any incidents that have occurred during transport. This process allows for an accurate assessment on when and where potential damage to the core has or might have occurred, highlighting mishandling, rough transportation and improper packaging techniques.
A detailed report will bring attention to any such instances. The Lithotrack also acts as a powerful deterrent for improper handling and emphasizes to the rig and transportation crews the importance and value of the core.
Upon arrival at the laboratory, the Lithotrack™ units are linked to a computer and the recorded data immediately identifies potential issues. The data needs to be correlated with the well site report detailing core handling procedures, packaging and core condition prior to shipping. Based on appraisal of this information recommendations for improved packaging and transport can be proposed.
Special core containers
Use of the special Kirk containers ensure the secure transportation of materials from the well site to the laboratory. The system offers a considerable advantage over existing packaging techniques in that it is constructed using modular pre-shaped layers. Therefore the ultimate size of the consignment directly relates to the nature and number of samples being sent, reducing transport costs.
The pre-shaped layers used inside to support the core have been selected to absorb shock and vibration in the most hostile environments.
Combined with the Lithotrack™, the special core container offers the optimal solution in preventing core damage during transportation.
